A Super Hero’s Virtue

When I was a kid I collected, and read comic books. I collected Marvel comics, DC Comics, Valiant, Dark Horse, Golden key and many others from various publishers. I truly loved comics, and I still do. It’s quite fascinating that today most people know who the super hero’s are by watching the cartoons and movies, but if I ask them if they ever opened or read comic books, they would say no. Hardly anyone reads comic books any more or so it seems. I got to know about many super heroes through the pages of comic books. I read all about who they were and what virtues they espoused.

The cartoons and movies do not do justice to what I read in the comics. Today, I want to talk about virtue, the type of virtue we basically do not see anymore in today’s society. What is Virtue you may ask? The dictionary defines it this way:

Virtue – behavior showing high moral standards. “Paragons of virtue”
synonyms: goodness, virtuousness, righteousness, morality, integrity, dignity, rectitude, honor, decency, respectability, nobility, worthiness, purity.
A virtue is a positive trait or quality deemed to be morally good and thus is valued as a foundation of principle and good moral being. Personal virtues are characteristics valued as promoting collective and individual greatness. The opposite of virtue is vice.
I work in the education system, this is the place, or should I say one of the many places, where virtue is slowly destroyed. The culture today wreaks the stench of “do what you feel mentality. Common decency and Godly principles and Virtue are things many just do not want any part of. It is another reason why we see so many people, especially men, not claiming responsibility for their actions and engaging in stupid crap, like smoking pot, recreational drugs, drinking and getting drunk and fathering children out of wed lock and not manning up to their mistakes. These are the same guys that talk smack and think that is normal behavior for men. These are also the same men who expect liberal policies to take care of everything. Many of these guys complain like little sissies and feeeelll like they are entitled. What these guys need is a swift kick to the balls. Real men seek or have virtue. Real men seek out to accomplish goals and are in constant competition with themselves to better their lives. As the New Year approaches, we see many men making New Year resolutions that they know they will never keep. I am not focusing this blog to those losers. No, this post is a motivator for those who want to begin living their life with purpose. Be a real man of Virtue, and start something and see it through.
