How To Make Money

The title of this blog article is all to familiar for those of us who read the various opportunity magazines and visit the websites with this theme. Many of the ads contained in the opprotunity magazines and many of the articles written in many websites all promise riches describing products promising you the moon if you buy into some “get rich quick” scheme. Before the internet became what it is today; back in the early to mid 1990’s, the way to get the word out on various money making programs were to read periodicals and magazines on the topic of Money making.

There were many authors and creators of get rich quick programs promising to sell you on a program that will have you living on easy street. Many of these “OPPORTUNITY” programs included the following:

  1. MLM (Multi Level Marketing) programs
  2. “No Money Down (Carleton Sheets) realestate programs
  3. Mail Order programs (many programs disgused as mail order)
  4. Chain Letter programs – MLM Chain letters
  5. Information gathering programs (This is where you go out and collect personal information from strangers)
  6. Mailing programs (Mailing letters)
  7. Vending machine business
  8. Photography Business
  9. Used Car or Car dealing business

At that time I was very young and open minded (naive); I am an open minded person when it comes to learning about new business opportunities but not as naive as I was when I was younger. At that time I would write to many of these magazine ads and send them a self addressed stamped envelope, which was the way many of them would send you their free information on the program they were selling. One of the most famous business opportunity rip-off artist that I remember vividly resides over at Goessel Kansas. His name is T.J.Rohleder, president of his own company named M.O.R.E. Inc. The only thing I remember purchasing from this guys company was his answering maching marketing business. This program consisted of selling information booklets on various topics like, how to get a government job, how to break into TV comercials, how to set up a mailing business and such. You would sell the books in this manner: First you would decide which book to sell. Next, you would place a classified ad in your local newspaper or penny saver with the ads they supplied you with from the manual that came with the program. This was easy because each title had its own written classified ad that you can use when placing the ads in the newspaper.
Next, you would choose from several pre-recorded messages on tape, that came with the program, and you would put the sales tape into your answering machine, selling the caller on the booklet you chose to sell. You would need a separate phone line and answering machine for this to work. Once a person read your classified ad and became interested, they would call the number on the ad. The person that would call your number would hear a pre-recorded meessage telling and selling them on the book. If the person was interested they would leave their name and address so that you can mail them the book. Now here is the kicker; the book would be mailed C.O.D. for $19.95. I do not have to tell you that I lost money doing this. First off, it costs money to send packages COD (Collect on Delivery); the postage is expensive. And the return rate was monumental.
The people just did not pay the post man when it came time to collect on the package. The post would return the packages back to me. What I learned from this basic course in mail order is to collect first and then send the product to the customer. Simple and basic right?? This stuff is common sense. Its so common that I forgot that- that is the real world way to do business. Keep in mind, as I said before, I was young and stupid, I mean naive. After that I would recieve many solicitations from this guys company now that I am on the companies mailing list. His mailings looked legitamate with his, multiple page sales copy booklets, promising you thousands of dollars if you join one of their programs. A light bulb would go off in my head when I would read further where they would say that they would do all of the work for me. All I have to do is sit back and collect my checks, which would come to thousands of dollars weekly. HA, HA, HA. Really!! Unfortunately there are many suckers buying into this crap. I know that I purchased a simple program from this guy, which cost about $39.95 and the loss I had operating the answering machine thing was only a couple of hundred dollars, which can be made up again. But now we see this guy and his company bilking people for tens of thousands of dollars and many of these people who lose that money have nothing to show for it.
A guy like T.J. Rohleder gets away with this garbage because there are so many gulible people out there. The only way to make real money in this world is to sell something like a product or service. Thats it. I have yet to meet anyone who became a millionare by working one of these programs. There aren’t any that I know of.

Not all business opportunities were fakes. During my research, I came accross an ad from a gentleman named Stewart ‘O Kime. He owned a nice publishing company titled “Mountain Publishing Co.” He lived in Idaho and operated his publishing business from his home. His business was strickly mail order. This was during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. The internet was not even heard of yet. His goal for his publishing business was to publish information on the opportunities market and separating the wheat (legitamate business opportunities) from the shaft (the crappy rip off business opprtunities).
Stewart Kime

He published a nice little book and newsletter. The book was titled “Stay Home and get Rich.”

Stay Home and Get Rich

Stay Home and Get Rich

And the newsletter was titled “Best Income Opportunities 1992“, which you can dowload for your review. Stewart Kime is no longer publishing books and newsletters. The sample newsletter I have included for you is from my personal library of information. Stewart Kime has long since retired and moved to Panama with his wife. During his time, the early 1990’s; he would research many of the business and money making opportunities described in many of the magazines. He would purchase the business opps and report on them. Sadly, he would basically report on what he found and concluded that over 90% of the business opportunities and money making plans that were being sold were all useless. The only person making money was the person who published and created the program.
Stewart Kimes main business interests were MLM (Multi-Level-Marketing). He became very wealthy promoting many MLM programs like,Melaleuca, The Wellness Company, andEnrich International. He was mostly interested in MLM nutrition and supplement companies. Note that MLM is just another way to distribute goods and services. Not everyone is cut out for MLM. Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) is a marketing strategy in which the sales force is compensated not only for sales they generate, but also for the sales of the other salespeople that they recruit. This recruited sales force is referred to as the participant’s “downline”, and can provide multiple levels of compensation. From my personal expirence, I have not known anyone, with some very slight exception: Stewart Kime of course; who have made any real money or have become wealthy from MLM. Those who do become rich from MLM are usually those who have created the company. You see, those who create the company are the ones already at the top. All they have to do is create their downline of sales people who use the products and go foward and recruite others to do the same. To be a part of an MLM company you must use the products and sell people on those same products along with the business opportunity to build a downline of your own, which usually is next to impossible due to the fact that many of the MLM products like vitamins are sold in stores. Why buy from an MLM company when all you have to do is go to the store, supermarket or local pharmacy to get the same products.

Stewart Kime developed a really unique way of recruting new members to his MLM downline. He published a little blue booklet titled – How to Get Rich by Mailing Packages.

Mailing Packages

Mailing Packages

This little booklet would be mailed out to those people who would come across his classified ads and would request more free information. Stewart Kime’s mail order strategy was a three step process. The potential customer would send in for free information once they would read the classified ad. Next, he would send out the little booklet along with a free issue of his newsletter. If the person’s, who requested the information, interest was peaked after reading about the various MLM programs described there in; he would go and mail them out a package, postage paid, detailing further the MLM opportunity. The packages would usually include a video, pamphlets and a sign up form on the company that peaked the persons interest. He would also at times follow up his mailing with a phone call to those who requested further information. If the person went through the process of signing up and joining the MLM company and using the companies products, Stewart would call them and go over any questions they may have. He would train his down line with the same mailings he sent them in the beginning. He would have the new recruits follow the same system.

Stewart Kime has a new website and is apparently working a new MLM program. You can go to his web site at –>>
Now, this system really worked great for him and quite possibly those of you reading this would like to try an updated version of this concept by adding a website and trying out Stewarts recruting system, but keep in mind that MLM does not work for everyone. It did not work for me at all. Mostly because it takes an incredible Monster sized effort to keep recruting people. But that does not mean you will expirence the same thing. you may actually succeed with MLM. Keep in mind that many that begin their MLM business as new recruits usually fall off after a short while leaving you searching for new people to fill in the gaps for those who left the program. Stewart Kime did this business in a full time manner and also, keep in mind that he also published books and newsletters to further supplement his business. He had several businesses he was working at that time along with his MLM’s. And Stewart Kime worked more than one MLM program; he had about eight MLM programs he worked diligently. He managed to create an incredible downline to the point where he retired while living off the finacial rewards from his down line, which is still in effect to this day. For those of you seeking a way to make money from a business from home, keep in mind that it takes very serious and very focused work to succeed at building a business from home. It can be done but it is not as easy as many of those infomercials make it sound.

As stated before, the only way to make money in a business of your own is to offer a product of service. There is no other way that I know of. And the only choices we have available to us are, starting a business and or real estate investing. Like it or not these are the only choices available to those of us who are not in the entertainment business or have a pro-athletic contract in team sports or pro wrestling where the athletes obtain those multi-year multi- million dollar contracts.

Several years ago I attended a wealth opportunity seminar Called The Inside Secrets for building Wealth. I would like to share with you the introduction to this seminar. Below you can hear the podcast of the seminar. I do not attend these anymore because you really do not learn anything at those places. What these seminars usually do is try to hard sell you on their expensive business opportunity programs. Basically what they are, are places to sell you on some business opportunity at very expensive prices, which usually go for $1,000 to $5,000 dollars per course.

The seminar I am sharing with you was promoted by John Polk. Many of his concepts are somewhat dysfunctional. He propigates realestate investing theories that are incredibly hard for many to execute. If you want to learn more about John Polk; go to these websites –>>

Better ways to invest

“Real estate investment books in book stores have lately become not much more than lead generators for Utah telemarketers. For real estate investment, book stores have turned into an advertising medium, not an information source. But other types of books still provide good real estate insights like those on securities investing, high performance in various fields, economics and financial history. In a nutshell, my books and newsletter tell you what you need to know, not what you want to hear. Real estate investment is tough, but there are many ways you can be successful at it on purpose if you are equipped with the right information.” – JOHN T. REED

I will bring much more on this topic.
